The day after Christmas we spent the day at my parents house with Chris, Wyatt, and Bradford, and my grandparents. God gave us all special grace to get through yet another difficult day.

This picture just makes me smile. My children, Elliot's children, my cousin Lauren's children, and my cousin Lisa's children - amazing all these kids came from just the 4 girl cousins! And, I especially love that Wyatt is holding a picture of Ellison because she was upstairs taking her nap and missed the photo shoot!!

Wyatt, Bradford, and myself all received the most precious and priceless gift from my parents - they made a scrapbook for all 3 of us of pictures of Elliot when she was a little girl. The kids are always wanting to know what Mommy was like as a little girl and it is so neat for them to see her doing all of the things that they do - climb trees, play in the mud, ride bikes, ride horses, have birthday parties etc..... I love that nearly every picture has me in it with Elliot - we were just so close and inseparable, and Mom said she could hardly find a picture that we weren't together.

E-daddy, Wyatt, and Elijah Brooks. There is a house here in town that is decorated with every kind of Christmas blow-up that you can possibly imagine. We have been looking at this house since my sister and I were children - it is tradition each year to go see the lights. As usual, we ventured out after dinner to go see the lights. What made this year even more meaningful is the story behind the lights. You see, last year when we went to see the lights, my sister found herself outside by the fence having a deep, heart to heart conversation with the owner of the house. She had never seen or spoken to the owner of the house in her whole life of going to look at the lights, but last year they had something in common - both of them were battling a fierce disease inside of their bodies. Elliot, stage 4 ovarian cancer, and this man, stage 4 colon cancer. There they stood that cold, December night, out in the yard talking about chemotherapy and the journey they were both going through - but both smiling through it all. When we pulled up to the house this year, there was a large memorial out in the yard saying that this man had been taken to Heaven this year, along with my sister.

Oh Erin,
Such a sweet, sweet post. I thought about you so much over Christmas and I'm glad the Lord gave you the grace to make it through. The story about the lights is so precious. Wow. Your dad's posts on CaringBridge, although completely heartbreaking are so inspiring to me and such a testimony to his faith in the Lord, and his transparency and writing are so deeply gut wrenching but therapeutic in a way. I truly appreciate his willingness to share his feelings because no one can truly understand the grief and shock that you all still feel every day. I will keep praying for you and your family. I pray for those sweet, beautiful children. I'm so glad you are here for them. Your children are so beautiful. Could they not be anymore your mini-me's?????!!!
