On November 7, 2013, Elijah Brooks turned 5 years old. He had very specific ideas about how he wanted to spend his special day. He wanted to go on a date with Mommy to "Cracker Barrel" for breakfast, then he wanted to have lunch with Daddy at Chick-fil-A, followed by a movie, and then dinner at Chuck E-Cheese! We really try to let the kids do what they want to do on their special days, so he was super happy when he got to do all of these things. After breakfast, we had a few hours before he was supposed to meet Jay. His birthday happened to be the day that the pediatric dentist here in town was doing the big "Halloween Buy Back Candy" event. So, I dressed the kids up in their costumes and we went to the dentist to drop off the candy - of course, they got to keep some of it! The dentist gave them $1 for dressing up in costume, and $1 for each pound of candy that they turned it. Elijah Brooks turned in 3.8 lbs of candy, so he walked away with $4 on his birthday! That was a HUGE deal! Ellison received $1 for dressing up in her costume. We took our dollars and went to the Dollar Store, where Ellison bought herself some new bracelets and EB bought some inflatable swords and a Ninja knife I believe. I figured a plastic knife beat 3.8 lbs of candy in my house, so I was happy! By the time we were done, it was about time for him to have some special Daddy time with Jay for the afternoon. We ran home and let him change clothes and then he was off to meet Jay. They enjoyed the afternoon so much, having lunch together, going to a movie, and then to build his very first Lego's (Star Wars ship). I met them at Taekwondo lesson at 4 that afternoon and we hopped in one car and headed to Chuck E'Cheese for dinner. The kids were so excited and had a fabulous time. All day long, EB kept saying, "I can't believe I am 5 years old"! I can't believe it either sweet buddy, but here you are, and we think you are the most amazing 5 year old in the world"! Happy Birthday sweet boy.
