Last week on the morning of Elijah Brooks' birthday, something came out of his mouth that stunned us. It was one of those moments where we just knew that God was truly speaking through our child right to our ears - which are often times too clogged with other things to hear God's voice.
Usually I drop EB off at school on school days, but this morning it was his birthday and Jay wanted to drop him off and have some special time with him before school. As we are sitting in carpool line, we always talk about our day and we pray. We tell him that no matter what happens during the day, no matter what he does that is good or not good, we will still love him - no matter what. After Jay prayed with him, he said, "Elijah Brooks, I love you so much". EB responded, "I know Daddy. I know you love me, I hear your words speaking in my mind all day".
What a precious reminder to us parents to always tell our children how much we love them! We never know what kind of impact those words truly have on our children as they go about the busyness of their days - and sometimes we aren't even sure if they have heard us or not.
Let it be said too of us, that we quieten our hearts so that we can hear our Heavenly Father speaking these words to us in our minds all day...., "Erin, I love you so much". If I heard it, and really believed it in all circumstances - no matter the noise in my head, or the things that compete for my attention and my affections daily - it would change everything wouldn't it?
Thank you Jesus for speaking so plainly to my son so that I could hear your words!

Elijah Brooks really gets it. I think that is why God asks us to become like little children in order to inherit the Kingdom of God. Love, Dad
